RULES PRIZE COMPOSITION HABANERAS “MANUEL PARADA” – 2022
1. OBJECT. Convene a prize of composition of works of habaneras, to enrich the archive of scores of the Board.
2. CREDITO PRESUPUESTARIO.
2.1. The maximum expenditure will be 3,000 euros, charged to the 2022 budget.
2.2. The expense will be charged to the budget application 334-48901 of the 2022 budget and is conditioned on the existence of adequate and sufficient credit at the time of the resolution of the concession.
3. ABOUT THE COMPOSITION CONTEST.
3.1. The Municipal Board of the International Habaneras and Polyphony Contest of Torrevieja, in the spirit of promoting the composition of new Habaneras, announces the «Manuel Parada» Habaneras Composition Prize – 2022.
3.2. The objectives of the announcement of the referred award are the following:
a) Encourage the composition of new works in the genre of the habanera.
b) Increase and create new musical heritage that enriches the archive of scores of the Board of Trustees, in order to be able to be used in the different events developed by the aforementioned Board of Trustees.
c) Generate a physical and digital file that has the habanera as a common denominator.
d) Dissemination of the winning work and its composer / author by as many means as possible.
3.3. All national and international composers who so wish will be able to opt for it.
4. ABOUT THE WORKS.
4.1. The composition must respond to the habanera form, with text in Spanish, a 2/4 time signature and a rhythmic quarter note equal to approximately sixty beats.
4.2. The compositions must be presented in the 4 versions that are cited:
– Version for choral mixed voices a cappella (SATB).
– Version for choral of white voices a cappella (SSAA).
– Version for a capella bass vocal choir (TTBB).
– Version for soloist and piano accompaniment.
4.3. The duration of the compositions should not exceed five minutes in duration.
4.4. The compositions must be unpublished in lyrics and music and be expressly composed for this contest.
4.5. The same author / composer can submit more than one work to the contest.
5. PRESENTATION.
5.1. The scores will be sent printed by certified mail to the Municipal Board of the International Habaneras and Polyphony Contest of Torrevieja, at the following address: C / Patricio Pérez, nº1, 1ºC – C.P. 03181 Torrevieja (Alicante) – SPAIN, specifying in the envelope the following motto: «MANUEL PARADA-2022 HABANERAS COMPOSITION AWARD – PATRONATO MUNICIPAL DEL CERTAMEN INTERNACIONAL DE HABANERAS Y POLIFONÍA DE TORREVIEJA». The name of the sender should not appear on the outside.
5.2. The printed scores will only have the title of the composition written in their heading, but without the names of the composer / author.
5.3. Together with the scores, in a separate sealed envelope on the outside of which will only appear the title of the score, the following documents will be included:
a) Title of the work and identification data of the composer of the music and the author of the text: name and surname, postal address, email, contact telephone number, bank account number.
b) Curriculum and photograph of the composer / author.
c) Copy of the National Identity Document (Spain) or Passport Number (International), of the composer / author.
d) Certificate stamped and signed by the bank with bank account number.
e) Responsible declaration signed by the composer / author, stating that the work presented is unpublished in its entirety.
5.4. Along with the scores, a cd or pendrive will be added, on the outside of which will appear the title of the work, which will include the following documents:
a) Digital copy of the materials in one of the following formats: .mus, .musx, .mscx or .mxl. These materials will only include the title of the work and the version (SATB, SSAA, TTBB, Soloist and piano), without allusion to the composer / author.
b) Digital copy in .pdf format of all versions of the work. Likewise, only the title of the work and the version (SATB, SSAA, TTBB, Soloist and piano) will appear in the heading of each score, without allusion to the composer / author.
c) Copy of each version in audio format (accepted formats: mp3, mp4, wav or aiff).
5.5. The deadline for submission of works is May 31, 2022 inclusive.
6. AWARD.
6.1. The “Manuel Parada” Habaneras Composition Prize will be endowed with 3,000 euros and a diploma, which will be delivered at an event scheduled by the Municipal Board of the International Habaneras and Polyphony Contest. The amount of the prize will be paid to the winner or winners once the taxes and withholdings established in current Spanish legislation have been deducted.
6.2. The Musical Technical Commission of the Municipal Board of the International Habaneras and Polyphony Contest, will act as the award jury, will examine all the compositions presented that are adjusted in time and form, awarding the award to the best qualified, failing the award on a date prior to the start of the 68th edition of the Torrevieja International Habaneras and Polyphony Contest of 2022. The ruling will be announced at one of the events scheduled by the Board of Trustees throughout the year and through its website.
6.3. The award may be void if none of the works reaches the required quality.
7. FINAL NOTES.
7.1. The Municipal Board of the International Habaneras and Polyphony Contest of Torrevieja, will have all the rights over the winning work, for use in the different organized competitions, both in its edition, publication or diffusion, the author / composer cannot make any claim to the respect, without prejudice to the inalienables that by (Spanish) law are conferred on it.
7.2. The Municipal Board of the International Habaneras and Polyphony Contest of Torrevieja, in accordance with the objectives of the contest, reserves the right to make the absolute premieres of these works, as well as subsequent interpretations, editions, recordings or reproductions on radio, television or in any number of Internet platforms create suitable for the winning entry.
7.3. The Board of Trustees may, exceptionally, authorize the public performance of these works before their premiere in the competitions organized by this Board, if it deems it necessary.
7.4. In the event that the winning work was selected by the Board of Trustees to be required to perform in any of the competitions organized by said Board, the Musical Technical Commission may request the composer to adapt the work to the characteristics required in said contests.
7.5. The works presented to the contest will not be returned, remaining in the power of the Board of Trustees of the International Habaneras and Polifonía de Torrevieja Contest. These works will become part of the archive of the Board of Trustees, and may be disseminated for use in the competitions organized by this Board, unless otherwise expressed by the author, who must communicate it in writing to the Board of Trustees via regular or digital mail, no. later than thirty days after the jury’s decision was made public.
7.6. Participation in this contest implies acceptance of each and every one of the points of these rules.
7.7. The Municipal Board of the International Habaneras and Polyphony Contest of Torrevieja, will resolve any question that may arise in the interpretation of these rules.
